Verdict. —
A 40x match bonus with 10% roulette weighting compared with a rakeback deal for a roulette player
What 10% roulette weighting does to a 40x bonus. The effective requirement on the wheel is 400x — the number this calculator returns for your own offer.

The number operators do not put in the headline

A '$1,000 bonus with 40x wagering' sounds like $40,000 of play. On roulette at 10% weighting it is $400,000 — and at $5 a spin, 50 spins an hour, that is roughly 1,600 hours at the table. Nobody clears that.

This is the single most important calculation on the site for anyone comparing bonuses, and it is why our promo code table ranks rakeback offers above headline matches.

The other clauses that matter

Maximum bet while a bonus is active (usually $5, and breaching it voids everything). Maximum cash-out from bonus winnings. Whether the multiplier applies to bonus alone or deposit plus bonus. And the expiry window — most bonuses die in 7 to 30 days regardless of progress.

A worked example

$500 deposit, 100% match, 40x wagering on the bonus alone, roulette weighted at 10%.

Bonus: $500. Qualifying turnover: $500 × 40 = $20,000. At 10% weighting the actual roulette turnover required is $200,000. At $5 a spin and 50 spins an hour, that is 800 hours at the table. Expected cost of producing it on a European wheel: $5,400 — to unlock a $500 bonus.

That is not a trick question or an unusual offer. It is a standard welcome bonus, read honestly.

When a bonus is worth taking anyway

  • You were going to play slots too. At 100% weighting the same requirement becomes $20,000 of turnover, which is a different proposition entirely.
  • The bonus is non-sticky. Your own cash stays withdrawable, so the downside is bounded.
  • You treat it as playing time, not money. A bonus that extends a session is worth something even if it never converts to cash.
  • The wagering applies to the bonus only, at a low multiplier. Rare, but it exists, and the calculator will show it immediately.

Questions

Why is roulette weighted so low?

Because even-money roulette bets are close to a coin flip, which would let players clear a bonus with minimal risk. Weighting it at 10% removes that possibility.

Should I ever take a 40x bonus as a roulette player?

Only if you intend to play other games too, or if you are treating the bonus as extra playing time rather than as extractable value. On roulette alone, the required turnover is generally unrealistic.
